Operations Manager – Underground Mining

About Manroc:
Manroc Developments is a leading Canadian underground mining contractor with a strong focus in Northwestern Ontario. We specialize in raise mining, mine development, underground construction, rehabilitation, and production support. Our reputation is built on doing difficult work safely, efficiently, and with a level of trust and accountability our clients rely on.
We’ve grown by staying practical, working hard, and building strong relationships — both underground and in the office. As demand continues to grow, we’re looking for an experienced underground mining leader to help support our operations, strengthen our teams, and position Manroc for long-term success.

At Manroc, safety is not a policy we reference — it’s how we work. Our people are not numbers. They are our neighbours, our friends, and our families. We believe everyone deserves to go home safe at the end of every shift, and we expect our leaders to set that standard every day through their actions, decisions, and presence in the field.

Location: Hybrid role focused primarily on regular travel to Manroc project sites across Northwestern Ontario and other operating regions, with time in Manroc’s head office in Manitouwadge and flexibility to work from home. The structure of the role will be built to suit the right candidate while meeting operational needs

The Role:
This is a senior operational leadership role focused on supporting day-to-day field execution across multiple underground mining projects.
Reporting to the General Manager, the Operations Manager will work closely with the GM and collaborate regularly with the broader senior leadership team. This role is intended to extend leadership capacity across the business by helping manage site issues, support superintendents, strengthen client relationships, and improve coordination across projects.
The role is hybrid in structure, split between working from home, regular travel to project sites, and time in Manroc’s head office. Travel will be a core part of the position and will need to align with operational priorities and the movement of the senior leadership team.
This role is intended to reduce operational load on senior leadership by providing strong field support, improving accountability, strengthening client service, and helping scale the business without compromising culture or performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide hands-on operational leadership and support across Manroc project sites.
  • Lead by example in maintaining Manroc’s safety culture through visible field presence, practical decision-making, and uncompromising standards.
  • Work closely with the General Manager to coordinate site priorities, resolve operational issues, and support broader business needs.
  • Support site superintendents and project leaders with planning, execution, troubleshooting, and follow-through.
  • Improve labour, equipment, material, and resource coordination across projects.
  • Ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and in line with client requirements and Manroc standards.
  • Monitor project performance, identify issues early, and implement practical solutions in real time.
  • Support production planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through clear communication, dependable execution, and proactive problem solving.
  • Identify opportunities for operational improvement, expanded scope, and future growth within existing and new client relationships.
  • Support workforce development, mentorship, and accountability across site leadership teams.
  • Support day-to-day operational coordination, including clear communication, reporting, logistics, and follow-through using email, Microsoft Office, and Manroc’s operating systems.
  • Contribute to longer-term operational planning, systems improvement, and business growth.

What We’re Looking For:
• Extensive underground hard rock mining experience, preferably in a contractor environment.
• Demonstrated progression into supervisory, superintendent, project management, or operations leadership responsibilities, with the practical judgment and credibility to support crews, superintendents, and clients.
• Strong practical knowledge of underground mining methods, production support, development, and construction.
• Strong raise mining / Alimak experience strongly preferred.
• A steady, respected field leader who can earn trust quickly, solve problems, and help strengthen teams.
• Proven ability to lead crews and support site leaders in fast-paced, high-production environments.
• Strong troubleshooting and decision-making skills in live operating conditions.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills with crews, clients, and leadership.
• Comfortable supporting administrative deliverables across multiple IT platforms and reporting tools.
• Ontario Underground Hard Rock Common Core and Supervisory Common Core (preferred).
• Strong understanding of mining safety regulations and contractor best practices.
• Comfortable with frequent travel and consistent field presence as a core part of the role.

What Success Looks Like:
• Improving operational support and consistency across project sites.
• Reducing day-to-day operational load on the General Manager and Senior Leadership Team.
• Strengthening communication, coordination, and follow-through between sites, head office, and leadership.
• Supporting superintendents and crews without creating dependency.
• Building stronger client relationships through responsiveness, reliability, and practical problem solving.
• Identifying operational improvements and growth opportunities within existing and future work.
• Helping Manroc scale without losing the culture, standards, and reputation that set it apart.

Why Manroc?

At Manroc, people matter. We work hard, we support each other, and we expect people to take ownership. This is an opportunity to join a company with:

  • A high-performing team that values accountability, trust, and straightforward communication.
  • Real influence on how work gets done.
  • Competitive compensation and a strong overall package.
  • Long-term opportunity to grow with the company.
  • A practical, no-nonsense, get things done culture.

If you’re an experienced underground mining leader who can step in, earn trust, solve problems, strengthen client relationships, and help move the business forward, we want to hear from you.
